I'm delighted to announce the launch of the Artists Exchange Programme funded by Arts Council England; an initiative that focuses on artistry and creative integrity in the continuing professional development of artists working in community dance.
The Artists Exchange Programme (AEP) is an innovative CPD offer which is inspired by and focuses on artistic integrity for dance artists at all stages of their career. The programme responds to a need for recognition of creative, artistic and choreographic excellence in community practice. Driven by the shared value system of influential community dance artists and inspired directly by the people we dance with; the AEP demonstrates the collective voice of independent practitioners and the valuable contributions that community dance artists make to the UK dance ecology.
Funded by Arts Council England, and supported by regional dance partners DanceEast, Theatre Bristol and Yorkshire Dance, the first phase of the AEP sees 12 highly experienced artists coming together to share practice and support each other in creative thinking, reflection and learning through a five day residential Skills Exchange. Through my own journey as an artists, and experience of mentoring, I wholeheartedly recognise the value in sharing and looking outward to respect and learn from the multifaceted skills of other artists. This first AEP Skills Exchange honours this core value and acknowledges the needs of professional, independent artists working in community dance to support each other and find shared values and practices, as well as diversifying and invigorating their practice.
The artist's exchanges through conversation, shared learning, moving and creating, will be logged and shared on the Artists Conversations blog which can be found n the new Artists Exchange Programme website. Follow the developments and find out more by staying in touch with me and on the new blog.
